Self-Audit with Humility: The Path to Continuous Improvement
You need to be humble enough to audit yourself.
A lot happens in life.
A lot happens in business.
A lot happens in your health.
A lot happens in relationships.
If you want to strive to be better, to be great, to be a champion, you need to make sure that you are headstrong in the decisions you make and keep driving yourself forward, even when everyone around you is doing the opposite.
If you’re confident in what you’re doing, that’s awesome, just keep pushing.
That said, you need to be humble enough to check yourself, to do an audit of where you’re going.
The Merriam Webster dictionary describes the meaning of the word humble as:
not proud or haughty : not arrogant or assertive reflecting, expressing, or offered in a spirit of deference or submission
Side note, WTF is ‘haughty’? Apparently it means:
blatantly and disdainfully proud : having or showing an attitude of superiority and contempt for people or things perceived to be inferior
We all have setbacks, we all have things that happen, we have things take us by surprise.
Just don’t let these things take control and drag you away from what you’re trying to pursue.
It might be something you’re personally under, it might be a health scare, it might be something mad that happens at work.
Just try and catch yourself when things start going awry. I’s not about avoiding every bump in the road, it’s about how you bounce back.
Take a look around, zoom out, and audit where you’re at and get yourself back on track.
Self reflection is key in times like these.
Here’s my 5 step Personal Audit Framework to get you back on track…
The 5-Step Personal Audit Framework
Step 1: Define Your Mission
Actionable Steps:
- Pinpoint Key Areas: Break your life down into critical zones – career, health, relationships, personal growth.
- Set Focused Goals: Write down precise, measurable targets for each zone.
- Deadlines are Non-Negotiable: Assign real, concrete deadlines to your goals. No excuses.
Step 2: Commit to Regular Check-Ins
Actionable Steps:
- Book Reflection Time: Carve out dedicated time each week or month for self-assessment. Protect this time.
- Ask the Hard Questions: Dig deep with questions like, “What have I actually achieved?” and “Where did I mess up?”
- Document Everything: Keep an honest record of your reflections and breakthroughs.
Step 3: Seek Honest Feedback and Adjust
Actionable Steps:
- Get Real Feedback: Don’t shy away – ask your inner circle, mentors, or colleagues for raw, unfiltered feedback.
- Face the Truth: Compare external feedback with your own self-assessment. Embrace the brutal truth.
- Pivot and Adapt: Make necessary adjustments to your strategy and goals based on the feedback.
Step 4: Execute Relentlessly
Actionable Steps:
- Break It Down: Turn your goals into a series of actionable steps.
- Prioritise with Purpose: Focus on high-impact tasks that move the needle.
- Stay Relentless: Show up every day and execute with discipline. Track your progress like a hawk.
Step 5: Review, Celebrate, and Evolve
Actionable Steps:
- Regular Deep Dives: Conduct thorough progress reviews at least quarterly.
- Celebrate Wins: Acknowledge and celebrate every victory, big or small. Keep your momentum alive.
- Evolve Constantly: Revise your goals and action plans based on new insights and changing circumstances.
Conclusion
Setbacks are a part of the journey, but with a structured approach, you can navigate through any distraction and stay on course.
Stay humble, stay focused, and keep pushing forward. Your path to greatness is not defined by the obstacles you face but by your relentless drive to overcome them.
Keep auditing, keep improving, and keep striving for excellence.
